Verizon continues to throw it’s support behind the relief efforts in Haiti this month by extending it’s offer to waive international long distance calling charges through February,14th 2010.

“It’s been almost three weeks since the devastating earthquake, and we know that many people still haven’t had the chance to speak with their loved ones yet because much work still remains to be done to restore the communications system in Haiti,” said Susan Retta, vice president of consumer products for Verizon. “As a result, we’ve decided to continue to waive long-distance calls to Haiti to help connect our customers here with their families and friends there.”

Previously, Verizon announced that all calls made from a Verizon residential landline or Verizon Wireless phone to Haiti will be rated at $0.00 per minute,* from Jan 12 through Jan 31. The waiver will now be in effect for two more weeks. Credit will be provided in future bill statements for long-distance charges for calls to Haiti that were made since Jan. 12.**

Last week, Verizon also waived all Verizon Prepaid Phone Card charges for all long-distance calls placed from the U.S. to Haiti, through Feb. 14. When a customer uses a Verizon Prepaid Phone Card to call Haiti, no minutes will be taken off the card, regardless of when it was purchased. Verizon Prepaid Phone Cards can be obtained at many retail locations across the U.S including Costco.

**If long distance calling fees were charged, credits will be issued in a future bill statement

Everyday I run into BlackBerry users who proudly show me their massive BlackBerry Messenger contact list filled with friends, family, co-workers and business contacts. I always ask them, “What would you do if you lost all of your BBM contacts?” Generally, I get the look of utter horror, which is then usually followed by a colorful statement. Then I ask them, “When was the last time you backed up your BlackBerry Messenger Contacts?” The blank stare I get generally tells the story. So, today we are going to cover, “How to backup your BlackBerry Messenger contacts, and also how to restore them”

BlackBerry Messenger can be backup 3 simple ways.

• Via BlackBerry Desktop Manager
• Via Remote Back up
• Via Local Backup (MicroSD card or on the device itself.)

Today we will only be discussing Backing Up via remote and Backing Up via local. You will need to be using the latest version of  BlackBerry Messenger version 5.0. Only version 5.0 supports this functionality, if you are still using an older version. You can still do a back up via BlackBerry Desktop Manager.   Let’s get started…

Well the new year is in full swing now and with the spring season rapidly approaching bringing fresh new products and ideas, leaked photos of upcoming BlackBerry prototypes have begun to surface. Ladies and Gentlemen meet possibly the first touchscreen BlackBerry Bold style device with a QWERTY keyboard! As you can see from the screen shots, the trackpad is gone and this prototype could be sporting the new Touch “Liquid Lens” display designed for high quality images. Also with RIMs push towards OpenGL functionality, which is now available on the Storm2, BlackBerry users can expect new 3D graphics in apps and games in the near future.

Now, according to CrackBerry this is mostly a very, very early prototype of the device, and RIM most likely has one closer to the new BlackBerry 9700 it’s testing. Now for many of you Berry lovers this would be a dream come true. But before you start calling your carrier, remember this baby is truly in the early stages of development, and it will be many months before anything close to the final version hits the light of day. Also keep in mind that there are possibly at least three new BlackBerry models, including a rumored Storm 3, for you to really get excited about.

For some BlackBerry Storm or Storm 2 users getting Google Voice to install on their BlackBerry has become a bit of a headache. It appears that for some reason when you go to the http://m.google.com/voice download page, you get a message that Google Voice does not support this device. This little fix should help you to get Google Voice to download.

1. Open the web browser.
2. Click the Menu key then Options.
3. Click Browser Configuration and change the Browser Identification to Internet Explorer (may also work with Firefox)
4. Press the Escape key and click Save.
5. Browse to http://m.google.com/voice again and you should now be able to install.

Once you have downloaded the app, be sure you change your Browser Identification back to BlackBerry.

Google has stepped up its efforts to help people here in the U.S. reach loved ones in Haiti. For the next two weeks, users of Google’s Google Voice Service will be able to make unlimited international calls to Haiti. Google Voice is a free phone service that offers its users not only the ability to add an additional phone number to their handset, but also the ability to make and receive phone calls from anyone phone they choose using your Google Voice number to call out and receive calls. Google has provided BlackBerry users a Google Voice app that allows you to make and receive phone calls, send text messages, and much more all through your Google Voice account. Here’s a little something for all you Pandora music fans. One of BlackBerry App Worlds most popular apps “Pandora Internet Radio for BlackBerry” has been updated from version 1.1.3 to version 1.1.3.1.  This update seems to be more of a patch / bug update as no significant new functionality was added.

According to the change log, 1.1.3.1 …

• Fixed hanging on startup for some listeners (with no error message popping up even after waiting several minutes)
• Fixed problem with tracks occasionally ending early (in the last 30 seconds of the track)
