Vonage updates it’s BlackBerry app, and offers unlimited calling to over 60 Countries.

blackberry_devicesVonage has released an updated version of it’s mobile BlackBerry service and app to include unlimited calling to over 60 countries around the world. For many of our readers this comes as great news, since BlackBerry currently does offer many unlimited ways to communicate internationally such as BlackBerry Messenger and other instant messaging clients. A service that now also offers unlimited international calling to select countries just adds icing to the cake.

There are a few things you should know.  First off, this is not a VOIP app, “which basically means making calls using your data plan”; the service will use your cellular minutes to make the call. You will only be charged for making a local call, not an international call. So this will work well with Unlimited Plans if you need to make a lot of phone calls, night and weekend usage, or quick daily calls. Also there is a monthly service charge of $24.99 a month, which has still got to be a lot cheaper than buying calling cards. Now most of the free calls are to landline numbers, no surprise there, and only a few countries, like The Bahamas, get free calls to both landlines and cellular.

If you don’t make enough international calls that warrant paying $24.99 a month, Vonage does offer a pay-per-use calling service through the same BlackBerry app with no monthly fee. You may also consider Google Voice for BlackBerry for this type of usage. Keep in mind you will need a credit or debt card to use this service.
