Well the results are in and PCWorld has picked its winner for the fastest SmartPhone3G network. PCWorld ran a series of tests across 13 major cities in the United States, comparing 3G download speeds, 3G upload speeds, and network reliability. These tests were preformed on AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Sprint mobile networks. So who has the best 3G network? According to PCWorld, AT&T takes the Gold as America’s top overall 3G network. Suprised? Let’s look at some numbers.

AT&T scored top honors in 3G download and upload speeds with Big Blue rarely produced speeds below 1,000kbps, which in turn left some of its competitors in the virtual dust. With speed test comparisons being held all across America from Baltimore to Seattle.

MobileCrunch reports that:

Average reliability (as tested by continuous 1-minute performance tests) leveled out at 92% for T-Mobile and Verizon, with AT&T and Sprint coming in just a wee bit higher at 94%. This is a huge change from when PCWorld ran a similar test 8 months ago, when AT&T’s reliability was puttering out somewhere around 64%.

AT&T blamed some of it’s earlier network woes on the IPhone and it’s inefficient use of AT&T’s 3G network, and has pushed up it’s efforts at reinforcing it’s 3G network. What does this mean for BlackBerry users? Well, if you are using a BlackBerry Bold on AT&T, you should be rocking some pretty good speeds for downloading apps, and music or video streaming services. Also keep in mind that at the moment, BlackBerry users can tether their devices to their laptop and use it as a 3G modem. Your friends with IPhone are still waiting for this to happen 3 years later.

Now you should keep in mind that this test is based strictly on network performance, and 3G coverage may be on a slightly different end of the spectrum. With 4G services now on the horizon, it will be quite interesting to see how each carrier stacks up in the very near future.
