Sprint updates it’s new customer 30-day trial policy to “Sprint Free Guarantee”.
We’ve all been there, we make the big decision to switch to another carrier. Pick-up something we think we will like, and after a few days we decided that the phone, or the carriers is just not want we want. So we return the phone, say our goodbyes, and go about our merry way. About a few weeks later, we get a nice little gift in the mail called a prorated bill. Generally a prorated bill is a charge for service from the date of activation to the date of cancellation. You call the carrier because you really don’t remember If the person behind the counter told you about this special little parting gift when your purchased the phone or even when you returned it. Well the polite customer service rep explains about the terms of the trial and asks if you would like to pay with a Visa, MasterCard or American Express. Now to be fair, generally if you are dealing with a good sales rep, they generally will go over this with you so there are no surprises.
Today, Sprint announced that they plan on making the surprise parting gift a thing of the past. Starting on April 1, new customers on Sprint who decide to cancel service within the first 30 days of the contract will have all fees refunded to them. Yep, that’s right…all fees. That includes the device, activation fees, early termination fee, full refund of the prorated charges, all associated taxes, and all Sprint surcharges associated with these charges.
Now this does not mean you can just buy a phone go nuts and take it back. The Sprint press release states the following:
Sprint customers will be responsible for certain charges not associated with the Sprint Free Guarantee: usage not included in the monthly service plan, premium content (i.e. digital downloads, songs, games, applications), third-party billing, international charges and any associated taxes and Sprint surcharges.
