RIM’s new BlackBerry Shield Service. Wireless Backup, Lock, Wipe,& Locate!
With all the hype of the it Phone, RIM has been quietly working on some slick new solutions to prepare for the release of BlackBerry 6 OS. While your friends are excited that their new phone can finally multitask like your Berry, RIM has been working on a pretty slick new service called BlackBerry Shield which could take the worry out of losing your BlackBerry and its precious info. Here’s a look at what the new BlackBerry Shield service can do for you.
BlackBerry Shield Service:
- Remote Device Wipe – In case of loss of your device, just log in to BlackBerry Shield to wipe all all data from the device and / or memory card.
- “Lost & Found†Screen – You can customize the sentence on the screen to display that the BlackBerry is lost and show any information about the content (i.e. “Please return to â€).
- The ability to remotely set the password on the BlackBerry
- A loud bell alarm - Useful option, even if you’ve lost your BlackBerry (at home) – once you’ve activated this option, your BB will ‘activate’ loud mode, sounding an alarm, which will hopefully prompt a passerby (or yourself) to pick up your lost BlackBerry.
- Tracking capability – Based on the GSM transmitters and / or GPS position that is constantly monitored on your BlackBerry. You have a good chance of locating it on a Map (like Google Maps) from the BB Shield dashboard on your computer.
- Backup – Create wireless backup and restore, which can be set to automatically exercise in the preset time intervals
This new feature will cater to mostly BlackBerry BIS users, which is mostly consumers and small business. There is no press release on when this new feature will be available, but with all the pressure from other devices makers looming, I’m sure this and other new offerings will be coming quite soon. If you like this new feature, please hit the like button or leave a comment in the Facebook comment.
