BlackBerry Strom 3 Confirmed! More Power, OS 6, and Mobile Hotspot Enabled.
Just a couple of days ago, we reported that it looks like a possible 4G next generations BlackBerry Storm 3 was currently being developed. Our buddies over at Engadget have set the record straight today with the above image received from a device training class. This report does show that the original tip we got was slightly off, but not by much. The new Storm 3 will be basically be a beefed up version of the Storm 2, but the real difference will be under the hood.
Here are some of the specs so far:
- BlackBerry 6
- WebKit Browser – Same Browsers as on the iPhone / Google Android Devices
- 512MB Of RAMÂ w/ support for a 32 GB removable SD Card.
- 5MP Camera With new UI
- World Edition – Sim Card Support for International Travel
- 802.11n Wi-Fi
- 3G Mobile Hotspot (Coming Soon)
Yes, I do love that fact that BlackBerry is finally getting a new OS and a much improved Web Browser, but the fact that the Storm 3 will have 3G Mobile Hotspot capabilities is insane. Ok, for those of you who don’t get what this means, let’s break it down in non geek terms.
You may have seen the Sprint and Verizon Mifi commercials where you buy this little box and it creates a Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot that can provide internet access to any mobile device that support Wi-Fi. The Storm 3 now has this functionality without the need to buy another device. Your BlackBerry will broadcast a 3G Wi-Fi hotspot, and you can connect your laptop or any other Wi-Fi enable device to the web. Generally you can connect up to 5 devices to at the same time, so if you’re at a trade show, party, road trip or wherever, you can now have and can offer internet access via Wi-Fi. Rumor has it that this little baby could be coming from Verizon this holiday season, continue to read us for more device updates.
