Even with all the Google devices on the market, the Google mobile app team is still hard at work trying to keep BlackBerry users happy. The Google Voice  for BlackBerry app has been updated to vo.2.o.2. Here is Google’s announcement on what new:

Faster dialing with Google Voice on Android and Blackberry devices

Thursday, July 22, 2010

At Google we are obsessed with speed. Our mantra is faster = better. This is true for our Google Voice mobile apps as well. When you want to make a call, your phone should connect you as quickly as possible, whether you’re calling via Google Voice or not.

Today we are launching an enhancement to the Google Voice mobile app on Android and Blackberry phones, which makes placing calls much faster. We call this feature “direct access numbers.” Here’s how it works:

Until today, the Google Voice app had to make a request to the Google Voice server every time you wanted to make a call to send us the phone number you wanted to dial. Then the call would be connected via a Google Voice access number. With direct access numbers, we assign a unique phone number to every person you call. This means that we no longer need to use your data network to access the server each time you make a call, so calls will be placed much faster.

The updated Android app is available from Android Market starting today. For Blackberry users, you can download the app by visiting http://m.google.com/voice from your mobile device. You will need a valid Google Voice account to use the app, and at this time, Google Voice is available in the US only.

So what is Google Voice? Google Voice offers users the ability to have a free second phone number that can be used with your BlackBerry smartphone. The service allows you to give out only your Google Voice number as a primary contact number.

Here’s a quick list of features :

  • One number: A single phone number that rings all your phones
  • Free SMS: Send, receive & store text messages online
  • Block calls: Send unwanted callers straight to voicemail
  • Record calls: Record phone calls and store them online
  • Conference calls: Join several people into a single call
  • Screen callers: Hear who is calling before you pick up
  • Discounted International calling rates: Some of the best international calling rates. Canada is a free call.

Thanks – you have been a great help. I upgraded my GV yesterday and was sorry I did when I found I lost my Verizon via Favorites free Google Voice dialing.

On your web site I found a link that let me download the 0.1.7 version. I had been searching all over for this and finally found it here.

FYI – the link I found here is:
