BlackBerry App World 2.0 Beta Released: See What’s New, And Sign Up To Give It A Spin.
A couple of weeks ago we showed you the highlights of what was coming in the next major update for BlackBerry App World to v2.0. As BlackBerry 6 quickly begins to make its way to market, RIM has announced that BlackBerry App World 2.0 is now available in the BlackBerry Beta Zone as an invite only beta trial. If you are interested in testing this and the other BlackBerry Apps, you can sign up by going to https://www.blackberry.com/beta/ to register. Once you have registered, you can choose from a list of apps and software to test. Keep in mind that you will still have to be approved to test an app or software, and, once approved, an invite will be emailed to you. In the meantime, here are a few additional enhancements that were not listed in our original post.
- Supports OS 4.5 and above
- 4.4 and below to still support App World 1.1
- App World 2.0 app is smaller than 1.1 (in KB). This is due to dropped 4.4 and below support as well as general optimizations
- Improved image caching so there will be icons and apps when you load it up right away
- New BBM-style menu hierarchy categories with a new themes section (the whole system is called top 25). The top menu items are: Recently Updated, New, Top Free, Top Paid, and Themes.
So if you’re ready to take the latest version of BlackBerry App World out for a spin, head on over to https://www.blackberry.com/beta/ and register.
